WHY PARTICIPATE?

I've been asked many times how university faculty can benefit by networking, collaborating, and developing strategic partnerships with Arkansas communities, especially the new Crossroads Coalition. This workshop, led by our own nationally recognized Mark Peterson, is designed to aid participants in discovering the rewards associated with faculty and community joint ventures to include:

  • Developing a structural network to get things done.
  • Having a laboratory to test your newest and most innovative ideas and best practices.
  • Putting together proposals for funding from an expanded range of sources.
  • Creating a field setting for student projects.
  • Building a long-term professional relationship
  • Fabricating a pipeline of talent and know-how that extends from Arkansas communities to institutions of higher education and returns again to the benefit of all involved.
  • Having the opportunity to do things you could otherwise never do
  • Making a real positive difference for real people in Arkansas communities, especially in the Delta.

This workshop is especially important in that the newly formed Crossroads Coalition is in the process of creating:

•  Five Pillar Groups devoted to developing best practices in the four areas of broad-based development (economic, community, education, leadership), and a

•  Foundation for helping to leverage funds needed to support the crosscutting and overarching projects in the region.

We are hopeful that faculty in higher education and the leadership of existing programs and organizations will become members of these Pillar Groups. The workshop is designed to convey to participants how they can take full advantage of the opportunities that these Pillar Groups can offer for professional advancement and personal satisfaction.
