RE: Creation of a UAEDI Discussion Group to enhance and promote entrepreneurial activities and education in Arkansas

MEETING TIME AND PLACE:

Wednesday
November 19, 2003
11:30 am - 1:30 pm
Arkansas Union
Room 504 (Epley Board Room)

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
One of the goals of UAEDI is to facilitate discussions of areas of importance to Arkansas that eventually lead to funded projects that enhance economic and social prosperity, most often in partnership with others. One of these areas is ˇ§entrepreneurial activities and education.ˇ¨

Our primary objectives for this first meeting are:
1. To determine whether the faculty, staff, administrators and students at the University of Arkansas could make a significant contribution to enhancing and promoting entrepreneurial activities and education in Arkansas.
2. If so, to determine if there are those outside the University of Arkansas who would be willing to partner with the University of Arkansas to enhance and promote entrepreneurial activities and education in Arkansas.
3. Given the discussion related to the above objectives, to determine if there is sufficient interest to proceed with this Discussion Group.
4. If so, to:
o Begin to identify other potential partners that should be invited to participate, both inside and outside the University of Arkansas.
o Begin to inventory current and past activities relating to the enhancement and promotion of entrepreneurial activities and education in Arkansas.
o Set a timetable and agenda for the next meeting

THE NEXT STEPS:
If we are successful, I would expect that before the end of the 2004 Spring Semester, this Discussion Group would divide into one or more Special Initiative groups. The Special Initiative Groups would seek to implement a number of the "break-through solution" ideas that will have been generated, in part by teaming to write proposals that to obtain the resources needed to transform these ideas into reality for the betterment of our state.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW:
1. Are you interested in being part of this group?
2. Who else, if anyone, would you like to bring with you or have me invite to be part of this initial discussion?

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
1. Unfortunately, there are always scheduling problems.
o If you cannot attend and wish to be included as having an interest in participating, please let me know.
o If you plan to attend, please let me know (Unfortunately, UAEDI is not able to provide a ˇ§free lunch,ˇ¨ a situation that I hope some day to correct! However, lunch may be purchased in the Unionˇ¦s food court area and brought into the meeting room.)
2. I want to emphasize that this is an open meeting for all those with an interest in this topic. Therefore, feel free to invite others in your various organizations to attend.
3. If you are not currently on my UAEDI electronic mailing list and wish to be included, please let me know.

Best regards to each of you, and I look forward to working with you on this exciting endeavor.
