This mailing marks the beginning of the second year for UAEDI. As I indicated to you at the end of the spring semester, it is the goal of UAEDI to have a greater public awareness of our collective and individual programs beginning with the 2003 fall semester. Accordingly, this will be the focus of our first meeting of the fall semester.

By separate mailing I will bring you up to date on a number of UAEDI activities that I believe you will find interesting and in which you may wish to become involved. For the moment, I’m purposefully delaying the scheduling of future general meetings of UAEDI in that there are a number of proposals under review that, if funded, would be of interest to all. FIRST MEETING OF UAEDI FOR THIS FALL: Please note that the first general meeting of UAEDI for FY04 will be held: Tuesday September 23, 2003 2:30 – 4:00 pm Rooms 507-509 Arkansas Union. Note that this is a slightly different time of day than for our past meetings. TOPICS FOR THE MEETING: This meeting will focus on two topics: 1. Report about the SEED (Student Efforts in Economic Development) program that was initiated in the Spring 2003.
2. Public “unveiling” of the new UAEDI web page and logo and the UA Capabilities Database. SEED: I will be sending you additional information about the SEED program. Briefly, SEED is a way for the University of Arkansas via UAEDI to formally recognize students and student projects that contribute to the broad-based development (economic, community, educational, leadership) of Arkansas. Two classes participated last year, and we’ll be hearing about the experience of at least one of these during the session. In fact, early next year we’ll be making a presentation on SEED at the national Conference for Industry and Education Collaboration. UAEDI Web Page/UA Capabilities Database: I’m very excited about the new UAEDI web page. It is geared around helping faculty and staff put together stronger proposals by providing quick convenient links to supporting statistical and programmatic information, RFP’s, and possible “internal and external” partnerships. Certainly, a web page needs continuous improvement, so we hope that you will provide us with your first impressions at the September 23 meeting. Also, the new UAEDI logo, for which you provided input, will be displayed. AGENDA: The Agenda for the September 23 meeting is as follows:
· 2:30 pm – Welcome and announcements– Otto Loewer
· 2:40 pm – The SEED Experience by Interior Design Students in planning the interior space for the proposed Technology Center for the Delta in Cross County (Betty Loewer, Carolyne Garcia, Bill Thomas)
· 3:15 pm – Demonstration of the new UAEDI web page and the UA Capabilities Database (Snow Winters with possible assistance from Cristina Scarlat, Janet Parsch Beth Juhl, and Brian Culpepper) · 4:00 pm – Adjourn
